RESPONSIBILITY ON THE TEAM
Michael serves as Development Manager with operational responsibility for project
development, procurement of consultants, project cost and financial analysis,
construction management, contract negotiation and building relationships with
clients and vendors.
CAREER SUMMARY
Prior to joining Furman Development, Michael had experience with a variety of
retailers including BI-LO Supermarkets, Lowe’s Home Centers and Winn Dixie Supermarkets.
During the course of his career, Michael has participated in the development of
more than 100 retail shopping centers encompassing over four million square feet.
Michael has most recently been involved in project management and leasing activities
for the RiverPlace mixed use project and development management and coordination
for the Carolina First Bank Corporate Campus, both in Greenville, South Carolina.
EDUCATION
Michael is a graduate of the McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He holds
a B.S. degree in Business from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. In addition,
he has pursued coursework in the former Clemson/Furman MBA program.
PROFESSIONAL COURSES, AFFILIATIONS, INTERESTS
A 30 year resident of Greenville, Michael is a licensed Broker in North Carolina
and South Carolina. He is a long time participant in professional organizations
such as the International Council of Shopping Centers and is the first recipient
in South Carolina of the Certified Development, Design and Construction Professional
designation from that organization. Also, he has held Board of Director positions
with The Urban League of the Upstate and the American Heart Association.
Michael enjoys golf, reading and watching college and professional baseball.
He and his wife, Bonnie, have two grown daughters one of whom is an attorney in
Greenville and the other is a graduate student at The University of North Carolina-Chapel
Hill.
