The United Community headquarters in downtown Greenville was awarded the WELL Certification from the International WELL Building Institute.
The WELL Building Standard is a performance-based certification system that marries best design and construction practices with scientific research. The certification highlights the bank’s headquarters as a premier building standard, focused on enhancing employee’s health and well-being.
United Community’s headquarters, known as the United Center, is the first project in South Carolina to receive this certification. It earned the certification based on seven categories of building performance: air, water, light, nourishment, fitness, comfort and mind. The facility located at 200 E. Camperdown Way achieved a bronze-level rating.
“From the very beginning, we wanted to design this building with the purpose of bringing people together in a space that encouraged collaboration,” said Lynn Harton, CEO and chairman of United Community. “The environment where you work sets the table for success, and we are proud to have provided our talented team with a space they feel they can thrive in.”
United Community’s $65 million headquarters was completed in March 2024. The seven-story building features gathering spaces, quiet zones with seating areas, nearly 30 conference rooms, multiple mothers’ rooms and a cafe room on each floor.
The United Center was developed by The Furman Co. along with McMillan Pazdan Smith and Harper General Contractors. Steve Navarro, president of The Furman Co. said the special requests from the United Community team presented a wealth of exciting opportunities when developing the headquarters.
“Beyond LEED and other building enhancements, WELL improves productivity through better indoor environments,” Navarro said. “This is an extraordinary commitment to the health and well-being of employees and is paramount for recruitment and retention. We were proud to be part of this vision and are excited to see it come to life and be awarded for it.”
